What you should be doing now…
Practice good time management and study skills to keep good grades. Use a calendar to keep track of assignments & deadlines. Staying organized helps. Remember - every class counts. Keep those grades up!
Either get or stay involved with extracurricular activities, clubs, leadership roles and community service. This will help on college and scholarship applications, and it is proven that students who are involved in school are more successful in school.
Register for the NCAA Clearinghouse and NAIA , if you are interested in participating in college athletics. (www.eligibilitycenter.org,)
If you test well, you may want to consider taking the PSAT test October 19th. This is a practice test for the SAT. If you score high enough when you take it your junior year, you could qualify for the National Merit Scholarship.
Be listening for announcements about Governor’s School.
You may want to start becoming familiar with scholarship opportunities. There aren’t many out there for 10th graders, but it’s always a good idea to start looking so you will know what they are expecting of you. Check with your parents’ employer to see if they offer scholarships. Visit website such as:.
